Love covers it
Love covers a multitude of sin
Did you know that love covers a multitude of sin? [1Peter 4:8] “Above
all, love each other deeply, because love covers a multitude of sins.
Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. Each one should use
whatever gift he has received to serve others, faithfully administering
God’s grace in its various forms.”
God cannot be fooled and knows
your heart. He knows the number of stars in the sky and the number of
hairs on your head. But having faith means you have a responsibility to
read the Word, know what God wants from us, know Christ and do your
best to make sure others see that in you. Anyone can come to Him for
forgiveness. Even those who profess to be Christians are filled with
wrong information, hatefulness and judgment . But the New testament
tells us:
[Matthew 5: 44-48] “But I tell you; Love your enemies and
pray for those who persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father
in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and send
rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love
you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing
that? And if you greet only your brothers, what are you doing more than
others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your
heavenly Father is perfect.”
One of the hardest things we will ever
do is pray for those who are hurting us. As humans, we have no idea
what unconditional love is nor how to apply it until we can sincerely
let go of our anger and grudges and pray for those who persecute us. Try
praying for the person who lies about you, is sabotaging you at work,
or the person who violated you when you were young.
Henry W.
Longfellow once said: “If we could read the secret history of our
enemies we shall find in each man’s life sorrow and suffering enough to
disarm all hostility.” You know that many things that happened to you,
whether by your choices or others, affected your demeanor, your
personality, your approach to others. So why would you not understand
that obviously some hurt befell this person who is hateful, or overly
emotional, controlling, malicious, manipulative, etc? I’m not saying be
their best friend and try to rescue them, but they do need to understand
the love of God and come to Christ to be healed…. It is possible to
mentor from a distance by showing them love, forgiveness and kindness.
Even with this, it can be difficult to put into perspective. But the
stories in the bible teach us that we are all sinners. Some are still
overcome by demons and illness and disease. When you see someone who is
perverted, addicted, cutting, hateful, emotionally unstable or any
number of damage they suffer from, take pity on them and pray. I know
people who were healed from years of addiction to meth in an
instant. By His hand they were healed and never had the desire to return.
So remember when people are mean, don’t take it personally, even if it
is you they lash out at. In reality, they are in pain and they don’t
know Christ. Just as Christ’s words on the cross, about the very people
who were killing Him, were “Father forgive them for they know not what
they do.” How can we not see that they are lost in darkness and have no
knowledge of God’s word or salvation or His peace in their lives. Pity
them, Love them anyway and pray for them.
Remember that He asked us
to pray in this manner: “Forgive us our trespasses [sin] as we forgive
those who trespass against us.” Well, if we cannot forgive others, then
how can we come to Christ and ask for forgiveness? Pray about it, read
the word. He will show you His great love and grace for you depending on
your willingness to trust in Him.
